This Installation Guide is meant to be more of a Quick Installation Guide than a full blown manual, if you need more information about installing FCMS, please refer to the User's Manual.

Upload entire .zip file contents to your webhost.

2. Set Permissions

Set the permissions of the following folders to 777 (read, write, and execute for user, group and other).

  • gallery/avatar
  • gallery/documents
  • gallery/photos
  • gallery/upimages

3. Run the Install script

Go to http://www.yoursite.com/fcms/, where yoursite.com is your domain and fcms is the directory where you installed Family Connections, and follow the installation screens.

As long as your site hasn't been previously installed, you will be directed to the installation screens, otherwise you will be warned that your site is already installed. Running the installation more than once will result in losing all previous information.

3.1 Pre-Installation Check

This step will check to make sure that you have set the proper permissions to allow FCMS to install. If you receive an error here you will need to go back to step 2.

3.2 Database Information

The next step is to setup the MySQL database connection.

Database Host - the address where your MySQL database is setup, typically localhost. This is provided by your web host provider.

Database Name - the name of your MySQL database. This is provided by your web host provider.

This step will attempt to connect to the MySQL database using the information you provided in the previous step. If you receive an error, close down your browser and re-run the install script again, making sure you have typed in the correct database information.

3.4 Website Information

The next step is where you fill out the information about your family site.

Website Name - the title of your website.

Contact Email - the email address you want all notifications of new users and questions about the site to be sent to.

Sections - the various sections of Family Connections you want your site to make use of. Family News and Prayer Concerns are the only two optional sections.
