How often does everyone visit? How many users use it? Is anyone using it for something other than a family site?

After FCMS 2.3 is complete (it’s coming soon, I promise), I will be spending time creating new Mods and Themes. I’m asking this now, so I have a nice big list of things to work on when I’m ready. So, what new mods would you guys like to see?

Wait… what is a Mod anyway?

A Mod (short for modification) is any additional feature to the site that currently isn’t (and probably wont become) part of Family Connections. The recipe section is not a mod, even though it’s an optional part of FCMS, it is a part of the default installation (if you want it to be).

Some Ideas…

A few mods that my family is currently interested are:

mobile photo uploader

facebook photo upload integration (upload photo once and it appears on facebook and fcms)

Now that FCMS 2.2 is finished, I want to stop and let the user decide what I’ll be focusing on next. I could work on creating 5-10 new themes or I could work on FCMS 2.3. Let me know in the comments or on the message board, what you would rather see happen first.

Themes

For the new themes I was thinking about creating about 5 new themes with specific “themes” in mind, something like a Christmas theme or Birthday, that type of thing, then I would create a few more simple basic themes similar to the alpha and beta themes from previous versions.

FCMS 2.3

The major additions in the next release will be a new Family Tree section, and a overhaul to the profile section. The profile section will include Facebook like status updates, more options like a bio and links to other social media accounts, as well as a complete overhaul of the Ranks functionality.

I’ve been thinking a lot about changing the navigation for FCMS. As more and and more optional features get added to the site, the navigation has become cluttered, and the current solution is to move some navigation to the sidemenu. While this was a good idea at first, I’m beginning to rethink this solution.

At first this worked because lesser important navigation was on the side where the most important navigation was at the top, but now with all the new features, its hard to show all the important navigation at the top, so some links go unnoticed by certain users.

A better solution would be to have all navigtion at the top of the page in some type of dropdown menu style navigation.

My question though is, how does everyone feel about these proposed changes?

Do you like the current navigation?

Would you rather have all navigation at the top in a dropdown menu?

Would this be better as an optional modification or plugin?
